For the installation of blinds, it is the Conservatory that will determine which type of blinds will be suitable or not.
Be careful in case of freezing: do not operate the blinds! They must be allowed to defrost before touching them because there is a high risk of damaging the mechanics blocked by the frost.
The blinds can be made of fabric, PVC, aluminium or wood, the choice of material depends on the desired use of the blind: resistance, thermal insulation, waterproofing, decorative.
Thermal insulation
Insulation depends on the choice of fabric or material of the awning, but in the case of fabric, which is the most common option, the colour of the fabric is essential. It is recommended to choose light colours because dark tones retain heat and will encourage the greenhouse effect.
Specialists recommend outdoor blinds because they provide better sun protection by limiting the greenhouse effect. Although interior blinds equipped with reflective fabrics are becoming more and more efficient, they do not prevent the glazing from being heated by UV rays.
Indoor blinds require more natural ventilation; the indoor air must be cooled 2 to 3 times more than with outdoor blinds or conservatory sails.
With a Conservatory subjected to strong winds, the risk is to have an annoying slam of the blinds on the Conservatory.
Light transmission and decoration
For a canvas awning, the choice of fabric is essential depending on the desired light transmission. While dark colours allow little light to pass through, natural colours are better suited for a pleasant and discreet brightness.
It is better to avoid bright top colours such as blue or red, which create strange, subdued light.
Resistance and waterproofness
Exterior blinds subjected to severe weather must be highly resistant and waterproof. All blinds must be UV resistant, cotton awning fabrics will quickly lose their colours with UV rays; the fibre is rotten.
Polyester is cheap, UV sensitive and quickly deteriorates.
An aerated micro-perforated fabric is tear and weather resistant, providing good sun protection while allowing air to pass through.
